Is Todd Akin trying to lose?

Or does he really think women are that stupid?

Remember Todd Akin, the Republican running against Claire McCaskill for Missouri Senate who made the whole “legitimate rape” comment? Now he’s making comments against McCaskill, calling her “unladylike,” because we all know that Todd is a total expert on what makes a lady. After all, he’s the one who said your body shuts down and doesn’t let you get pregnant if you are raped—never mind that about eight pregnancies a day are caused by rape.

It’s no surprise that news stations spin their programming in order to promote whatever political agenda that their owners happen to believe in.  They have an interest in keeping people believing one way or the other and see it as a rightful exercise of their power and control.  But now it’s being shown that news agencies will go even further than just being biased - they’re willing to sell their coverage to those who can pay their price.

GMOs linked to cancer

And that’s a good reason to label the things, at the very least!

The Campaign to Label Genetically Engineered Organisms (now Just Label It) was the first activist cause that I joined in college. The Internet opened up a whole new world for me and I became politically and socially active in a huge variety of causes that I continue caring about to this day, but I do remember “The Campaign” as the first newsletter I signed up for in 2001.

Since then, there have been arguments over GMOs constantly. Even though several other countries have banned them, our leaders and GMO manufacturers insist that they’re completely safe and blah blah blah while we argue that we just want them LABELED so we know what we’re eating. To this day, we have not achieved this.

But we do know that GMOs are not completely safe, as we’ve been told over and over again. A recent study proved that GMOs cause cancer in rats. The photos here may shock you; the tumors are about as big as the rats themselves, if not bigger. While I’m no fan of testing on animals, I have to ask that if we’re testing on them to prove something is safe for humans and it’s NOT, then why are we still allowing such things on the market? Money, of course.

Michelle’s moving moment

I have to admit, I’m inspired.

As a die-hard liberal, I have found myself a bit surprised at my own disgust over this political season. Eight years ago—before I had a child, while I was still in college—I was a huge anti-Bush activist, organizing local community events and protests, making signs and stickers for my friends to use, and generally being angry every moment of every day while Dubya was in office.

Today I’m still angry at politicians policing the bodies of all women, policing the rights of people to get married and be happy, and generally policing everything they legally can about us. I think the public education system is a farce that exists to help them control us and keep us docile—from the glorified nationalism to the “approved” curricula used—and though I’m not even yet thirty, I find myself tired of it all. Isn’t just SSDD, after all?
