Let's Talk About Sex

On April 9, TLC will be premiering a film by James Houston called Let’s Talk About Sex. The movie is supposed to present “an innovative and empowering new vision for shifting our culture's approach to young people and sexual health in the United States,” to which all I have to say is—it’s about time! What’s especially exciting about this movie is that it was produced as a collaborative project with Advocates for Youth, so we know it’s going to be about comprehensive sex education and facts rather than the scare tactics and avoidance issues we’re pretty much used to in this country when it comes to sex ed.

Birth Control for Men in Our Lifetimes?

My mother always joked to me that if men could get pregnant, they’d have birth control pills in vending machines, just as readily available for mere cents all across the country as condoms are. I always came back with the idea that they’d have drive-thru abortion clinics, too, where men could also get slim jims and soda while they get the procedure done unabashedly, perhaps on the way to the game.

Suicidal Crisis

My Friend's Cry For Help

My heart is just so unnerved right now; I just got off the phone with the Houston Crisis Hotline (my friend lives near Houston, TX) and the National Suicide Hotline and I feel like my hands are still tied since I'm so far away. At the encouragement of my family I called those numbers to find out what I can do considering that I’m 1500 miles away from my friend, whom I see as a “little brother,” was that he has been thinking of attempting to do it yet again. I remember his previous attempt clear as day.
